About This Photograph

Shinnecock Hills, one of the oldest and most influential clubs in early American golf, was one of the five founding clubs of the USGA. The club has hosted several national championships, including the second U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur in 1896, and the 1900 U.S. Women’s Amateur. Here, in front of the historic clubhouse, several women putt while holding parasols, as their caddies and a group of men look on.
