About This Photograph

The Olympic Club was host of the 2012 U.S. Open. The San Francisco institution has been the site of many memorable USGA championships, including the 1955 U.S. Open, where unheralded Jack Fleck defeated four-time champion Ben Hogan. In the 1966 Open, Billy Casper rallied on the second nine to tie Arnold Palmer and then beat him in a playoff. On the amateur side, Nathaniel Crosby, the son of the legendary entertainer Bing Crosby, won the 1981 U.S. Amateur in 37 holes. Founded in 1860, the Olympic is the nation's oldest athletic club. Olympic added golf in 1917.
