Photograph shows The Ladies Open Championship semifinals at St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland. Glenna Collett Vare can be seen here in a bunker by the 13th green. Collett dominated women’s golf, winning five U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships from 1922 to 1930. She would claim her sixth and final title in 1935 after beating 17-year-old Patty Berg. In 1975, Collett was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame and is known today as the “Queen of American Golf.”
