About This Photograph

In 1930, Bob Jones set out to win all four major championships (U.S. and British Amateurs; U.S. and British Opens) in a single year. Earlier that summer, Jones went to Britain with the USA Walker Cup team and captured the British Open and British Amateur titles. He then came to Interlachen C.C. in Minneapolis, Minn., looking for the third leg of what would later be called the "Grand Slam." Leading by a stroke at the 72nd hole, Jones holed a 40-foot birdie putt to earn a two-stroke win over Macdonald Smith. Jones completed the quest by winning the U.S. Amateur 10 weeks later.
