About This Photograph

Ben Hogan continued his dominance of the early 1950s by winning a record-tying fourth U.S. Open championship. Hogan always seemed to play well on tough courses, as evidenced by his previous Open triumphs at Riviera C.C., Merion and Oakland Hills. Oakmont was hardly a pushover, but Hogan opened with a 67 and he cruised home with a six-stroke win over Sam Snead. Hogan never won a fifth Open title, although he lost a playoff in 1955 at The Olympic Club to unheralded Jack Fleck and missed another chance in 1960 with a costly bogey at the 71st hole.
